ASKED ABOUT HIRING A BAND OR ENSEMBLE
HOW FAR AHEAD OF THE ACTUAL DATE SHOULD A GROUP BE CONTACTED?
As soon as possible - many groups are
booked as much as a year in advance.
I WOULD LIKE TO HIRE A BAND THAT PLAYS "A LITTLE BIT OF EVERYTHING" - WHICH
ONE DO I CONTACT?
A quick check of this on-line directory will
show that the bands are listed according to the style of music they best
perform. A closer look will show (in parentheses) other styles of music the band is
capable of performing.
IS IT POSSIBLE TO HEAR THE GROUP BEFORE SIGNING A CONTRACT?
By calling the leader, you will be advised where the group may be performing.
A few recordings of Local 159 groups and soloists are available by
contacting the Office of the Secretary-Treasurer at (419)756-4857. Some
recorded examples are also available on this web site. Check under the
"Directory of Bands" heading on our
Home Page.
HOW MUCH WILL THE GROUP COST?
The cost will vary from one group to
another. The exact amount will depend on:
a. the popularity of the group
b. the size of the group
c. the length of the engagement (usually 3-4 hours)
d. the occasion
HOW CAN I BE SURE THE GROUP WILL NOT "BACK OUT" AT THE LAST MINUTE?
Simply by signing an official
"Federation" contract furnished to you by the leader of the group. Both
you and the leader must sign the contract for it to be binding. If you
hire a group not affiliated with the American Federation of Musicians, you will
not enjoy this protection and peace of mind.
HOW DO I KNOW IF A BAND IS AVAILABLE FOR THE DATE IN QUESTION?
Simply by contacting the leader of the
band.
